The Epic of Gilgamesh: A New Translation

Category:

The Epic of Gilgamesh: A New Translation Publisher: Penguin Classics | ISBN: 0140447210 | edition 2000 | File type: PDF | 288 pages | 12 mbOriginally the work of an anonymous Babylonian poet who lived more than 3,700 years ago, The Epic of Gilgamesh tells of the heroic exploits of the ruler of the walled city of Uruk. Not content with the immortality conveyed by the renown of his great deeds, Gilgamesh journeys to the ends of the earth and beyond in his search for eternal life, encountering the wise man Uta-napishti, who relates the story of a great flood that swept the earth. This episode and several others in the epic anticipate stories in the Bible and in Homer, to the great interest of biblical and classical scholars. Told with intense feeling and imagination, this masterful tale of love and friendship, duty and death, is more than an object of scholarly concern; it is a vital rendering of universal themes that resonate across the ages and is considered the world's first truly great work of literature.Download Links:http://depositfiles.com/files/b6yo0l5g0http://www.filesonic.com/file/260033591/The_Epic_of_Gilgamesh.pdf

The Amulet of Samarkand: The Bartimaeus Trilogy

Category:

The Amulet of Samarkand: The Bartimaeus Trilogy Publisher: Listening Library | ASIN: B0000W6SP4 | 206 pages | 2003 | File type: PDF | 8 mb Let's face it, fantasy is a well-worn genre, bloated with Tolkein ripoffs, tired generic plots and characters. There seems to be no end to the stuffand no shortage of readers who'll swallow it. And to this we can add a new type of fantasy that is fast reaching critical mass for younger readersthe Harry Potter clone. Check the young readers section of your local bookstore and you'll find literally dozens of books about young boy and girl wizards. As the saying goes, everyone wants to be the first to do something second. There is nothing new in fantasy, only old wine in new bottles. So when a new fantasy comes along that actually feels new its a red letter day in my book. That rant is by way of saying that this wonderful book avoids the pitfalls of many fantasy writers simply by virtue of the writing. A few years back David (and Leigh) Eddings burst onto the fantasy scene with their original Belgariad books. Plot-wise they were simply Tolkein retreads without the epic mthology. But what made them so readable, and so popular, was the original and entertaining voice with which they told their tales. So it is with Jonathan Stroud. This is a fun, wry, funny, well-charactered piece about a modern London where magicians rule the land and magic comes in the form of controlling various levels of demons (or djinn). Set amidst the political intrigue is a story of a young apprentice magician's quest for revenge via the use of the some-time narrator djinn Bartimeus. He is the main reason to read the book. His amusing, ironic take on events is worth the price of admission alone. The world itself is well drawn and realised, as are all the characters.Yes there are shades of Harry Potter (a young apprentice wizard in a world of magic where commoners are virtually cattle) and various other genre books (Randall Garratt's Lord Darcy series spring to mind) but it's all done with such verve and charm that it quite rightly transcends its influences and becomes a classic in its own right.http://depositfiles.com/ru/files/xex0ec6y4 http://www.filesonic.com/file/144909651/Jonathan_Stroud_-_Bartimaeus_Series.rar

This haunting tragedy has touched audiences for centuries. Now Bruce Coville makes this play the next of his dynamic adaptations of the Bard for the young. Once again, he expertly incorporates essential lines from the play into his own rich prose to tell the tale of the ill-fated Prince of Denmark. Acclaimed artist Leonid Gore adds intense, dreamlike images in acrylic and pastel. Alfred Lord Tennyson "Poems"

Category:

Alfred Lord Tennyson "Poems"Classic Poetry Series | English | 2004 | ISBN: N/A | 427 pages | File type: PDF | 3.4 mbPoetry compilation of classical English poet of Victorian Age Alfred Lord Tennyson.Tennyson's works are melancholic, and reflected the moral and intellectual values of his time, which made them especially vulnerable for later critic. He was the favourite target of attacks of many English and American poets who saw him as a representative of narrow patriotism and sentimentality. But later critics have praised again Tennyson. For example, T.S. Eliot has called him "the great master of metric as well as of melancholia" and that he possessed the finest ear of any English poet since Milton.http://depositfiles.com/files/ljm5znb31 | http://uploading.com/files/9a9645d1/Alfred_Lord_Tennyson__Poems.rar/ | http://www.filesonic.com/file/123712141/Alfred_Lord_Tennyson__Poems.rar
